1940's Family Day

The Hadleigh Reminiscence Group, Community Education and Learn East organised an excellent exhibition at East House to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Amongst the exhibits there was a war-time shop and tea-shop, cookery demonstrations, "Jitterbug" dancing and singing and a vintage omnibus taking families around Hadleigh.  The WI and HADS entered the spirit with many dressing in period costumes.

Local memorabilia on show included photos, letters, clothing and uniforms that had been donated or lent to the organisers? Even more significantly, many people came forward and shared their experiences of the war years and also of the nearby US airfield at Raydon.

The exhibition panels will remain in East House for the next 12 months.
