Theberton is a small village along the road to
Leiston from Middleton, Westleton, Yoxford and Blythburgh.
It is a particularly attractive church with a round Norman Tower
and thatched roof.
Legend has it that at
the time of Benjamin Taylor, Rector of Theberton, contraband was
stored under the alter which now stands in the Doughty Chapel.
The three bay arcade separating the
Chapel from the nave is particularly noteworthy with its stunning
use of colour.
The Church also has a fine Norman doorway in the
vestry. This dates from the 12th century.
In the porch there is a record of the
downing of a Zeppelin in 1917. Most of the crew were buried
for many years in the Churchyard.
