Almshouses of Hadleigh

The Grand Feoffees of Hadleigh administer income for almshouses in Hadleigh, erected by Archdeacon Pykenham in George Street.  In his will of 1497, he left money for the building of dwellings for 12 "decayed" housekeepers and 12 poor men, with an attached chapel where at 4 o' clock daily the inhabitants would pray for his soul.

Two additional almshouses for four inmates were endowed by Dr Thomas Goad in 1638.

The almshouses were rebuilt in 1887 for £1500.  Joseph Rand laid the foundation stone.
