Kersey - Off the Beaten Track (5 kilometres)

This walk takes you away from the tourist centre of the Kersey (around the ford) and out into the fields and lanes around the village.

Start from the main street, and go along the track between The Bell and the ford. At the end of the track, turn left and go over a stile. The path takes you to a bridge over the stream. Cross this bridge and turn right following the stream which will be on your right. Don't worry about the sign warning about the Bull; he is in the field the other side of an electric fence !

When the path peters-out, cross the fence using the stile on your left. Continue along the right edge of the field, then through a pasture until you reach a dilapidated barn on your right. Just past here, turn left along a track for about 450 metres. This takes you through Bridge's Farm (look out for the chickens, sheep and dogs - the latter of which are kept in secure runs). This brings you onto a lane which you should follow to the first junction. Turn left and then immediately right. This is the area know as Kersey Tye.

Continue ahead at the next crossroads to a "T" junction at William's Green. Here you turn right and then left immediately past the pink house onto a path alongside a field. The path meanders through a very small copse at the end of which you will find a hedgerow on the right. Continue in the same general direction for several hundred metres, keeping the field division to your right.

You will eventually find yourself facing into a large open field with a clear track running down the middle. Follow this down to the waymarker at the bottom of the field. Here, turn left along the track which leads to a bridge over the stream (on your right). Cross, and follow the track into another wooded area. When you reach some wooden steps (on your right) climb up the bank using these. At the top, turn left and walk along the edge of the field.

Just after the cream-coloured house on the left, several paths converge. You need to turn left and cross another bridge over the stream and then immediately right out onto a driveway, where you turn right again, onto a lane.

You will shortly pass a particularly fine, pink-painted farmhouse on your left. At the end of the wood on your right, turn right (at the water tank). Follow the path along the side of a stream (on your right) and continue up a hill. At the top continue round to the left, passing along a road with houses on each side. At the end, continue in the same general direction, going down the hill with Kersey Church on your right, returning to the main street.
