Hadleigh Learning Centre and the Peoples' War

A series of television programmes commemorating the sixtieth anniversary of the D-Day Landings have been broadcast over the past few weeks. In conjunction with this the BBC have launched a website (www.bbc.co.uk/ww2) that invites people to relive and record their personal memories of their wartime experiences. This is a great opportunity for anyone with memories of living through the war to record their story for posterity.

For those people who are too young to remember the war, the website offers a chance to understand the huge impact the war had on everyone, whether they were directly involved in combat or were on the “Home Front”.

For some people the most difficult part will be using the website. This is an area where we can help. Our friendly staff are on hand to help you get to grips with using the website to record your story and to read what other people have written.

In addition to the website the BBC have produced a free magazine entitled “Your Family’s War History”. For those who were born after the end of the war, the magazine provides some useful tips on researching your ancestor’s involvement in the war. Copies of the magazine are available at the learning centre. To get a copy simply come along to the centre in Crockatt Road (near the Household Waste and Recycling Centre).
