From Ipswich to Hadleigh – via Chudleigh? When the telephone rang at
Hadleigh Town Council Offices last week the Town Clerk was not expecting to
hear that a letter posted in Ipswich had been delivered to Chudleigh in Devon. Philip Vogel, Town Clerk of Chudleigh Town Council had received the letter even though it was addressed to Hadleigh Town Council with all the details, including the post code, correct.
Carol Bailey, Hadleigh Town Clerk, said “The letter, which should have travelled 10 miles, will have completed a 500 mile round trip by the time it arrives back with us.” She also added that “this could be the start of a good friendship between the two towns given they have many things in common from their population to their status in history in the wool trade. Philip has already suggested that we undertake a twinning exercise between the two towns!” Hadleigh Town Council now
